Intended Audience:
This 1-day seminar has been designed to meet continuing education needs of radiologists, mammographers, and technologists.  Those who order, perform, and/or interpret mammographic studies and other healthcare professionals who would benefit from reinforcement and update regarding the most current, innovative, and successful approaches to breast imaging are welcome to enroll.

Self Assessment Module (SAM):

Dr. Comstock's session on Breast MRI "Breast MRI: Technique & Interpretation"  has been qualified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfilling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certification Program.

Learning Objectives:

Breast MRI – At the conclusion of the Breast MRI lectures, attendees will be able to:

  • Summarize the strengths, weaknesses, and indications of current breast MRI techniques,

  • Implement standard techniques for breast MRI based on an improved understanding of
    the uses of each of the sequences performed in breast MRI protocol,

  • Develop a standard approach to interpretation of Breast MRI,

  • Appropriately utilize the ACR BIRADs in MR interpretation,

  • Outline the safety issues of breast MRI,

General Mammography – At the conclusion of the Mammography lectures, attendees will be able to:

  • Interpret commonly encountered problems seen on mammogram and ultrasound with the current BIRADs terminology and be able to discuss the appropriate management and follow up.

  • Compare and contrast national standards to personal screening recall rates and positive predictive value and modify practice if they fall outside recommendations.

  • Develop a systemic approach to the evaluation of calcifications and interpret calcifications on the mammograms using BIRADs terminology and determine the appropriate follow-up and management using the BIRADs recommendations.

  • Incorporate different strategies to aid in work flow to ensure optimal productivity and quality for diagnostic screening mammograms and biopsies.

Technologist Focus – At the conclusion of the technologist focus lectures, attendees will be able to:

  • Better address patient questions and concerns regarding breast imaging based on discussion of the common questions posed to technologists,

  • Take to their practice a better understanding of the new FDA approved modality of tomosynthesis and other modalities that are being developed in the fight against breast cancer.
Continuing Education

Physician CME: 

Accreditation Statement: Los Angeles Radiological Society is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  LARS takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

Designation Statement: LARS designates this live activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category I Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CMA Certification: This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education.

Physician Certificate: Physicians will receive a 2-part Physician's Certificate of Credit during seminar check-in.  It is the physician's responsibility to complete the certificate, marking presentations attended, and to turn in the top copy of the form at the the completion of seminar participation.  The bottom copy of the form is your CME certificate.

 

Technologist CME:

This program has been approved by the ASRT for a maximum of 9 Category A CE Credits, which is accepted by ARRT and ARDMS.  PLEASE NOTE:  To maximize Category A credit, LARS applies for credit by session.  Each session of the Seminar must be attended in its entirety to earn credit.   

Technologist Certificate:  Technologists will receive a 2-part Technologist's Certificate of Attendance during seminar check-in.  It is the technologist's responsibility to complete the certificate, marking sessions attended, and to turn in the top copy of the form at the the completion of conference participation.  The bottom copy of the form is your CE certificate.

Technologist Attendance Roster:  A ticket system will be used to document your attendance throughout the day and to develop the official attendance roster that is used to verify attendance with the ASRT.  Please follow ticket instructions provided on-site at the seminar to ensure your attendance is recorded accurately.
