PURPOSE AND MEMBERSHIP

Purpose
The Los Angeles Radiological Society (LARS), founded in 1921, is dedicated to the promotion of high standards of practice in medicine overall with a focus primarily on Radiology and Radiation Oncology. Members of the Society adhere to the medical and ethical standards of practice adopted by the American College of Radiology.

The Society promotes high standards through an active continuing medical education program by providing its members with the latest information on practice management and socio-economic issues, by representing the radiological community to insurance carriers and government agencies, and through a public education program designed to communicate the value and importance of Radiology and Radiation Oncology.

Membership
The Society is composed of 850 full-time diagnostic radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists, and technologists. Their standards of excellence are unmatched in the community and our membership includes some of the world's most prominent physicians, both in the practice of Radiology and Radiation Oncology, as well as in related research, teaching, and the development of new procedures and techniques.

Membership in the Los Angeles Radiological Society is the entrance to organized Radiology, including the California Radiological Society (CRS), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). Organized Radiology exists to promote standards of excellence in practice and science and to assure that Radiology is treated fairly in political and socioeconomic deliberations.

LARS includes the Southern California' Radiation Oncology Society, whose radiation oncologists are full partners in the leadership of LARS.
